Marvels
Psalm 111 the Bible tells us the following:
βThe Works of Yahweh are sublime, and those who delight in them are right to fix their eyes on them. Every work that He does is full of glory and majesty, and His righteousness can never change. He allows us to commemorate His marvels.β
Is this not so beautifully what Christmas is? A commemoration of the glory and majesty of the birth of the Son of God. The host of angels in all their glory and splendor declaring this moment to the shepherds. The heavens themselves bursting forth with a sign to be seen across the skies and observed and chronicled by wise nobility. The orchestration of the tangible holiness of the moment. Mother and father alone quietly rejoicing as the new born infant is born in a simple manger. All of this we delight in, and are right to fix our gaze upon, meditate on in our heart, and specially commemorate at Christmas.
In the Old Testament, God would tell the Israelites to get uncut stones and build a memorial whenever the Lord performed a mighty deliverance for them, so generations after would pass by and remember what the Lord had one for them. Seeing Christmas trees, wreaths, singing songs, and traditions of giving are an expression of remembrance of this amazing moment when God sent forth His great Deliverer, the Rock of Salvation, the Prince of Peace into the earth.
It is right to delight in and fix our eyes on this marvel which God has allowed the whole earth and generations to commemorate ever year.
