Pat Lawson— a Mother’s Heart

How does one write a short bio at age 65? So many years in such a short space! I’ll give some highlights to my story. I grew up on a farm, in a small Catholic community, 12 years of Catholic school, living in the same home from cradle to college. My life changed forever while in college when introduced to the love of my soul, Jesus. In a few short years, I went into ministry and started quite an adventure. For 6 years, I served as a campus evangelist at the campuses of MTSU and LSU, spent a year traveling and ministering on roughly 20 USA campuses and abroad, relocated to Kansas at UK, and finally MSU, where I met my husband, Leo Lawson.

Somehow, I equated marriage with settling down, but my single life was just a warm up! We moved 30 times in 40 years of marriage. These ministry moves were across the ocean, and back and forth throughout the USA - north, south, east, and west with a few stops in the middle. These moves are all part of the journey God has woven for me, building within me the fabric I needed to sustain the storms in life.

Now, I’m settled in North Carolina, a wife, minister, mentor, mother, and Mimi. Since we are in May, we will make this a Mother’s Day blog, which happens to be a theme in my life. I have women of all ages and around the globe that call me Aunt Pat or Momma Pat. I have three amazing adult children, who officially gave me the title of mother. Along with them have come their equally fabulous spouses, and two much smaller humans who call me Mimi. Because I’m a Mimi, I make two spectacular birthday cakes a year, usually incorporating minor engineering skills. Other than that, I still hate moving and cardboard boxes, and at 65 I've gone back to school.
