An Interview with Irina Dragomir Thomason
1. When did you first become interested in pursuing Art?
I was very little, maybe 4, when I fell in love with it. I watched my aunt sketch my portrait and I was mesmerized that human hands could accomplish this. I resolved then and there to be a great artist myself.
2. How long have you been an artist?
I started drawing and painting in kindergarten, took some watercolor lessons early on, practicing in all mediums and receiving art awards throughout high school. I went to Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design for my BA and have continued painting since then. I can’t remember my life without art in it!
3. What is your favourite part of art?
There is a moment when you’re working on something where the questions and the doubts disappear, and the sense of time disappears, and everything is flowing so well, one movement to the other, one brushstroke to the next, and it seems like everything falls into place. While I’m in this moment and enjoying it, I’m also outside of it in awe of it. Experiencing that moment is the best.
4. Who is your inspirational BEAUTY? (male or female)
My mom. She’s just a radiant human being, the peacemaker of the family, who is effortlessly herself, a natural beauty, and glows wherever she is. She also loves fashion and accessories and is always trying things out and playing with looks, she’s very confident in that way. She knows what she likes and what she doesn’t and I love that about her.
5. Where do you see yourself in the next 5-10 years?
Having a solo art gallery show. Maybe even owning my own art gallery!
