“Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard.”
Ecclesiastes 9:17
The wisdom of a mother is not often loud, but consistent. It is a gentle, yet persistent guidance that extends far beyond our childhood. In this way it is similar to God’s voice in our lives. In 2 Kings 19:11–12 Elijah discovered that God’s voice did not come in the form of an earthquake or fire, but rather a soft whisper. A mother’s voice is a soft, yet powerful presence in our lives and even when she is gone, her wisdom lives on in our hearts through the choices we make every day. From the day we are born we are led by her gentle, yet firm hand. Even in her absence we feel this hand guiding us towards God, the path He has set before us and the fruitfulness of His commands.
This month, for Mother’s Day, we are going to take a look at the legacy of a mother who passed at the age of 89. Her name was Loretta Gerard and we will be looking at her legacy through a Eulogy that was given by her daughter, Karen Bonasso. In this Eulogy you will see how the life of a mother can impact generations and still impacts them today, how her consistent presence brought joy to all those around her.
