Inspirations on Thankfulness
Freedom From Want
After painting Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Worship, Rockwell proceeded easily with the next two freedoms. On Thanksgiving Day he photographed his cook, Mrs. Wheaton, as she presented the turkey to the family at the table. She “cooked it, I painted it, and we are it,” Rockwell reported. “That was one of the few times I’ve ever eaten the model.” In addition to the family cook, the artist also included two Rockwells in the picture - Rockwells wife, Mary, on the left and his mother on the right.
